unfathomable
This is maybe the coolest thing I’ve ever reblogged.
The fact that so many people don’t have any idea how to function without Uber and Lyft should really be highlighting how important their work is and how much more they should be valued by the community. “The boss needs you, you don’t need him” is a slogan for a reason. Workers are needed. Every job in a community counts.
Realizing how hard life would be without workers in a given industry should be a reason to *support* strikes. Strikes are temporary, demonstrating what the effects on everyone would be if all those workers left, to show the power they have in collectively bargaining. Notice this demonstration, and support the strike and the collective demands of workers so that they don’t all up and leave.
You can support them for 12 hours and then go back to continuing to benefit from their service afterwards, or you can demonstrate to them and their bosses that even though you couldn’t function without these workers, they aren’t valued enough by their communities to deserve living wages and safe working conditions.
Workers on strike are relying on their communities to support them. It is a scary act of trust in fellow workers to put yourself in a position vulnerable enough to lose your income, your job, your reputation in the industry, out of sheer belief in your fellow workers and your community that they will have your back. They are trusting you. Please don’t betray them. If you, too, feel that supporting the strike puts you in a vulnerable position, please work with the unions to come up with solutions. Reach out to your community. Follow their lead and trust them like they trust you.
Mutual aid is important. Reach out for help, offer help, and show that communities are willing to stand up for each other. There is power in compassion for each other.
I have to laugh a little bit about the lineup of CGI films coming out because I remember people complaining a lot a about the hyper realistic Pokemon in the new Detective Pikachu when it was announced but I have seen nothing but praise for it after the expressionless automatons in The Lion King and the unholy abomination in the new Sonic.
Like as soon as we saw how much worse it could be we shut the fuck up about Mr. Mime right quick.
Ok call me a conspiracy theorist all you want but either the animators of the Sonic movie are about to be horribly mistreated by working overtime to fix Sonic’s design in just a few months, or this whole Sonic looking ugly as sin thing was a ploy to get people talking and get bad press only for the director to swoop in and make him look relatable and cool by announcing a redesign but it actuality Sonic’s design is already different than the trailer’s design which was purposefully designed to look ugly in order to get attention. I am not even kidding, and both of these options sound super shady and gross so you know what? Screw this movie.
Hello, people of the world! If you haven’t heard, on May 8th, Uber drivers in several cities are planning a 24-hour strike to protest pay so please do not use Uber’s services that day! Don’t cross a picket line!
Lyft drivers are participating as well!!
If via is available in your area it’s like UberPool but they boast the highest wages and commissions in the ride share community for their drivers. Also it’s cheaper than UberPool and LyftLine AND it’s more efficient. The app puts drivers on a predetermined route with pickups and drop offs occurring almost sinultanesouly so it’s much more stream lined. I’ve also never had to walk too far from my drops and pickups.
I didn’t realize ;-;
Okay I reblogged this before BUT the visual contrast between the first scene and the second one is fantastic. The first sets Peter’s vibrantly multicolored suit up against the black & white colors of the reactor; the second does the same thing, but switches the palettes. Now the background is in reds and blues and Miles’ suit is the black and white. And he still catches the eye in a screen full of moving parts. THIS MOVIE, GUYS.
to me the funniest line in spider verse that certainly wasn’t meant to be funny was when peter was like “my uncle ben died” and noir was like “my uncle benjamin died” like he had to say it like that he couldn’t just say mine too
Noir’s “In my dimension it’s 1933” line is funny to me for reasons I can’t explain. A lot of Noir dialogue is meant to be goofy but even the lines that aren’t are funny somehow
